On the edge of the Wangenbourg-Engenthal forest, the Hôtel Restaurant Le Freudeneck is situated in the Middle Vosges, close to the GR5. The cosy rooms feature an en-suite bathroom with a toilet, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. In the evening, in the wood-panelled dining room with its warm, welcoming atmosphere or on the shaded garden terrace, the team serves traditional cuisine prepared with fresh, regional and seasonal produce. In summer, a 12-kilometre circular walk sets off from the village centre towards the Schneeberg, at 961 metres. From the Lottelfels, the view stretches across the Alsace plain as far as the Black Forest, before returning via the ruins of Wangenbourg Castle. Nideck Castle and its waterfall make for another memorable excursion. In winter, the granite massif of the Champ du Feu, the highest point in the Middle Vosges, offers a mix of downhill and cross-country ski runs, snowshoe trails and toboggan runs.
