CASTLES & MANOR HOUSES
Villa Carona was built around 1781 by the Milanese entrepreneurial Andreoli family as a summer residence. For nearly a century, it served as their retreat from the summer heat of Milan. The patrician estate stands on the edge of the village, surrounded by historically significant houses belonging to renowned Carona artist families such as Scala, Petrini, Solari, and Casella. These families not only shaped Villa Carona and the village itself but also contributed to the construction of the Moscow Kremlin, the Milan Cathedral, and many world-famous monuments. Following a marriage into the Scala dynasty in the mid-19th century, Villa Carona was divided into two sections. During that period, the large garden, wine cellars, and the building’s current structure were created. The last resident of the Scala family was a railway engineer who spent summers building railway lines in Argentina. In 1951, the residence was transformed into a hotel.
